Welcome to Africa!

The adventure begins just before dawn. Flames from the hot air balloon burners light the darkness as the crew inflate their craft. The first, pink tongues of sunlight flicker across the skies and the hot air balloon fills then rises. Suspended in a basket beneath the rainbow-coloured canopy, you’re off for a game-viewing adventure with an entirely different perspective. Apart from the occasional hiss of the burners, a lion’s roar, elephants crashing through the bush, baboons perched in the tips of the trees startled and screeching to see something above them, the flight above the Serengeti or Masai Mara plains is magically silent. At the end of the flight, the passengers are treated to a champagne breakfast in the bush, complete with flowers. China and crystal are set out on the table that is placed under a convenient acacia tree. The finishing touch to the flight is a game drive back to the camp, and the possibility of seeing the same pride of lions, or herd of elephants that had been viewed while ballooning. A flight certificate is issued on completion of the balloon safari.

Expensive, almost US$500/p (similar in all providers), but we decided to give it a try and were very glad we did it.
We chose Balloon Safaris Ltd. because they were the first in the business here, had the most experienced pilots, crews and high quality, safest balloons.
It was an amazing and memorable experience. Everything was well planned and executed professionally.
From the pre-fly briefing and hotel pick up by the friendly Joseph, breathtaking ride with captain Ellie who gave us confidence and laughters, awesome breakfast, and the safari drive afterward (while taking us back to hotel) with Joseph taking us up & close with various animals including a cheetah couple enjoying their sumptuous breakfast.
We were lucky as the weather was right and we encountered so many animals both while flying and on land. Sometimes the weather may change its mind or animals decided to roam far off so we need to manage our expectations.
Because of this great adventure with Balloon Safaris Ltd. and Captain Ellie, we plan to take up balloon rides in other places around the world, but will make sure we only go with the safest company and, hopefully, a fun experienced pilot like captain Ellie (visited July last year).
Tip: If possible, stay in accommodation closest to the river or at least inside the park as animals are most active during dawn and dusk so you can get to them faster and stay longer. It’s worth it
